Cannibal Cop

Alleged Cannibal Cop’s bondage fantasy originated with Cameron Diaz in ‘The Mask’

Gilberto Valle, a 25-year-old New York City police officer and father, is accused of conspiring to kidnap women, torture, torture and eat women. Prosecutors allege that he had lengthy online conversations about his plans, used his access to a police database to research potential victims, and went as far as to spy on the women at their homes.

Valle’s lawyer Julia Gatto said in court papers that his “arousal appears to have originated with a scene in the movie, ‘The Mask,’ in which Cameron Diaz pretends to be abducted and bound.” The 1994 motion picture starring Jim Carrey came out when Valle was only 12-years-old.

Gatto also says Valle told his psychiatrist, Park Dietz, that he started watching porn in college and that led him to darker websites that “were a gateway into cannibalism pornography.”

The defense plans to argue that all of Valle’s actions were part of a twisted fantasy and that he never planned to act on them.

Gatto said that explaining Valle’s sexual fantasies to jurors will be difficult. “At trial Mr. Valle will acknowledge that he has unusual, sexual fantasies which involve imagined acts of violence against women – a fetish that will be difficult for most jurors to comprehend.”

Jury selection is currently scheduled to begin February 11, and opening statements will start on February 25.
