Bell’s Robert Rizzo seeks to have corruption charges dismissed
A decision is expected on Tuesday on a motion to dismiss charges against former Bell City Manager Robert Rizzo and his assistant, Angela Spaccia.
Rizzo and Spaccia are charged with misappropriation of funds, conflict of interest and falsifying records.
They, along with several other accused Bell administrators, claim voters approved a charter measure in 2005 that enabled them to get around state salary limits.
Rizzo collected a yearly salary of $787,637 a year, with annual 12% increases every July. He earned $1.5 million at the time of his arrest in September 2010.
His assistant, Angela Spaccia, made the equivalent of $850,000 a year before September 2010.
Bell is a working-class community of 37,000 residents in southeast Los Angeles County.
