DA claims evidence of Hernandez fiancee perjury
FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — Prosecutors say they have “direct evidence” that the fiancee of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez lied to the grand jury that indicted him on a murder charge in the slaying of Odin Lloyd, including about a box she discarded at Hernandez’s direction.
The prosecution said in a filing Tuesday it has evidence that contradicts multiple pieces of Shayanna Jenkins’ testimony.
Jenkins has pleaded not guilty to perjury, a charge her attorney has sought to dismiss. Prosecutors say Jenkins told the grand jury she couldn’t recall where she disposed of the box, which was in a plastic bag, and that she didn’t try to conceal the action. It’s not clear what the box contained.
A message left Wednesday for Jenkins’ attorney wasn’t immediately returned.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in Lloyd’s 2013 shooting death.
