Defense attorneys depose lead investigator in Trayvon Martin murder trial
Defense attorneys for George Zimmerman deposed Chris Serino, lead investigator in the Trayvon Martin murder case, according to court paperwork released Monday.
Lead defense counsel Mark O’Mara deposed Serino last Wednesday, according to the paperwork. Late last year Serino hired Jose Baez, the attorney who successfully defended Casey Anthony, to represent him.
The former investigator drew criticism after he publicly said the Sanford Police Department never had enough evidence to charge Zimmerman with a crime while also filing paperwork with the State Attorney’s Office saying he believed there was enough evidence to charge him with manslaughter.
Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Authorities allege that the Neighborhood Watch volunteer profiled the unarmed African-American teenager, followed him, and believing he was about to commit a crime, shot and killed him.
