Defense for alleged ‘Cannibal Cop’ wants identities of co-conspirators
The defense team for alleged NYC Cannibal Cop Gilberto Valle have reportedly asked for the identities of his alleged co-conspirators.
Valle is accused of planning to kidnap, cook and eat at least 100 women and using police resources to choose, research and track his proposed victims. According to court documents, prosecutors have “hundreds of thousands of email and instant-message communications in which Mr. Valle and others talked about their violent sexual fantasies.”
Public defender Julia Gatto plans to argue that these plans were only part of a graphic fantasy and that Valle never planned to act on those impulses, and she hopes the alleged co-conspirators can confirm that theory.
“Three weeks before trial, the defense needs to firmly know the identity of Mr. Valle’s alleged co-conspirators so that it can conduct its pretrial investigation,” Gatto wrote in her motion to the court.
“Indeed, effective trial preparation could uncover facts critical to Mr. Valle’s defense in that the individuals with whom Mr. Valle was chatting likely will corroborate that they were engaging in fantasy role play with no intention of acting on their fantasies.”
Three alleged co-conspirators have been named thus far – Michael Vanhise, “Moody Blues”, and “Ali Khan”.
Valle has pleaded not guilty.
