Hearing date set to reschedule trial for alleged Chardon High shooter
The next hearing date in the case for accused Chardon High School shooter T.J. Lane is scheduled for Jan. 30. The purpose of the hearing is to set a new trial date.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin this week, but Geauga County Common Pleas Judge David L. Fuhry granted a joint motion filed by Prosecutor James Flaiz and defense attorneys asking for a continuance of the trial. Both sides are currently waiting on the results of forensic tests.
The Jan. 30 hearing will be a closed door conference outside the presence of the media. Lane has also chosen not be present.
Lane is accused of opening fire in his high school cafeteria, killing three students and wounding three others. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and if found guilty faces up to life in prison without parole.
He was 17-years-old when he allegedly committed the crime and he is not eligible fort the death penalty.
