New district attorney plans deliberate approach with Aurora movie theater shooter
Incoming District Attorney George Brauchler (R) will take office in January, and the former military prosecutor said he plans to take a slow and deliberate approach with his most high profile case.
“This isn’t a DUI, this isn’t even a homicide case, those are serious too, but this is one that the government may potentially seek to take the life of someone, that is a big deal, and a slow process is a better process,” Brauchler said.
Braucher also said that this case will not distract his administration from the overall goal.
“That has to be a focus of a new administration is not to be caught, getting distracted, by what is the biggest media case, not only in the state, but in the history of the country,” he said. “At the moment there are tens of thousands of other cases that have victims and for each of those victims their case is the Holmes case, their lives have changed in some way,” Brauchler said.
James Holmes, 24, is accused of bringing a small arsenal into a crowded movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, and opening fire during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, killing 12 people. He is charged with 24 counts of first degree murder and 126 counts of attempted murder.
