NYC Nanny Accused of Murdering Children Says She is Innocent
Yoselyn Ortega, 50, the former New York City Nanny charged with the murder of two children in her care, told the New York Daily News that she is innocent, and someone else committed the murders.
“I didn’t do that, somebody else did,” the former nanny said in a brief jailhouse interview.
When asked whether she loved the two young children, she responded, “My lawyer told me not to talk… I’m not supposed to say anything.”
Ortega also explained that she was aware that Marina and her husband, Kevin Krim, are expecting another child in October. She stated her opinion that the child will most likely help the family overcome their grief.
Two-year-old Leo Krim and his six-year-old sister Lucia Krim were found murdered with a butcher knife in a bathtub inside the Krim’s Upper West Side apartment on October 25 2012. Police say Ortega killed the children and then took the blade to her own neck in a failed suicide attempt.
Marina Krim, the mother of the children, returned to their home with her three-year-old daughter Nessie to find the bodies of her two children and a bleeding nanny.
Ortega was immediately taken to a hospital and shortly afterwards charged with the murder of the two children. She is currently being held inside Rikers Island in New York City.
Ortega’s lawyer is in the process of appealing a ruling that found her mentally competent to stand trial.
