Zimmerman delays filing for new bond hearing
ORLANDO, Florida (AP) — An attorney for the U.S. man charged with killing an unarmed black teen in a case that raised national questions about race and self-defense laws is delaying his request for a new bond hearing.
George Zimmerman’s attorney said on his legal team’s website Tuesday that he would put off filing the motion. He offered no further explanation.
Attorney Mark O’Mara says a new bond hearing won’t take place for several weeks — during which time Zimmerman will stay in jail.
Zimmerman returned to jail on Sunday, two days after his $150,000 bond was revoked. Prosecutors say Zimmerman and his wife misled a judge about how much money they had to put up for the bond.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of Trayvon Martin.
