Zimmerman to file lawsuit against NBC for edited 911 tape
George Zimmerman, accused of the murder of 17-year old Trayvon Martin, will reportedly file a lawsuit against NBC for selectively editing a 911 recording to make him look like a racist.
It was recently revealed that NBC edited a recording between Zimmerman and a 911 operator so that in the final clip Zimmerman appeared to say “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”
However, NBC did not include the 911 dispatcher’s question preceding Zimmerman’s “He looks black” comment:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.
Dispatcher: Okay, and this guy — is he black, white, or Hispanic?
Zimmerman: He looks black.
Reportedly NBC said the unfortunate editing was a “mistake, not a purposeful act.” However, at least three staffers have been fired from NBC as a result. This internal discipline does not appear to be sufficient for Zimmerman, whose complaint reportedly “will be filed imminently.”
