Zimmerman’s mom pens letter on arrest anniversary

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) – The mother of Florida neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman has written a letter to the public that criticizes the justice system for her son’s arrest in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.

Gladys Zimmerman’s letter was written to coincide with the one-year anniversary of her son’s April 11, 2012, arrest. He’s accused of killing Martin, who was unarmed, in February 2012.

The letter was written in Spanish and translated by her son, Robert Zimmerman. He released it on his Twitter account.

Gladys Zimmerman says the day will “forever be remembered by the Zimmerman family as the day the justice system failed us as Americans.” She describes what she calls a “false narrative” that was developed as the heavily publicized case unfolded.

Zimmerman is scheduled to be tried on second-degree murder charges in June.

Madalex says:

If the justice system failed you as an American, what do you say to the parents of Mr. Martin? Your son who thought he was a cop or a security guard or what ever the hell he thought he was took the life of an unarmed teen. By the way if you want to claim that the system failed you as an American perhaps your letter should be in English and not have to be translated by your son.

Keri VanNuland says:

Disgusting! Does she not think of the innocent young boy that he murdered in cold blood? He was told by the cops to get into his car, yet he decided to confront. I consider that premeditated 1st degree murder! Plus… You are concerned about America, yet will not learn the language?
